Chickens and all

We’re having serious talks about the prospects of raising chickens for eggs…not for additional revenue, but so we can turn some of our compost into food for chickens, and some of the chicken’s leavings into even better compost.
It’s all a matter of researching permaculture & chicken tractors, now, and I’m picturing the shuffle through the snow to a small, hay-filled coop, and hoping we’re smart enough to make it all easier rather than harder.
Right now, we’re resting up from shoveling out from under a pretty massive snowstorm, and I’m hoping to get on my skis soon. Soon!

  1. Chickens! I keep hearing great things about raising them. Can you really order them through the post?

You can…it sounds so crazy, doesn’t it?
I think we’re going to go out and bring some home, getting chickens in the mail seems wrong.

We are planning on getting chickens in the spring! Maybe we can go chicken shopping together :-)

Then we can get them some of these:

    Wow!
That’s awesome! Let’s bring along the chicken ponchos when we go: nothing real farmers love more than ad agency escapees with lil outfits for their poultry.

What kind of chickens are you getting? For eating, for eggs, or for running around in the yard?

I’m sure we could convert them to poncho fans.

I have to do more research on the specific breed (I’m procrastinating!), we’d be getting them for eggs and tick/bug control.
